Abstract

This article describes the first nineteenth-century Hebrew and Yiddish music textbooks (1883, 1885) written by the Vilna writer and musician Zvi Nisan Golomb (1853- 1934). Belonging to the Haskala (Enlightenment) movement, Golomb was a pioneering collector of Hassidic songs, and teacher of instrumental music and harmony.
