Authors should submit their complete texts (title, manuscript, tables, figures, examples), an abstract (150–250 words), and up to five keywords. Please follow the following guidelines.
Authors should avoid identifying themselves in the manuscript (the text, notes, etc.) to allow for anonymous outside review of submissions.
All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author.
All submissions should use the style of citation in conformance with the guidelines of the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed. First references to material should provide a full bibliographic citation (including publisher); further references should be abbreviated to author and short style.
Illustrations, Music Examples, and Tables
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as illustrations, images, music notation, audio and video files, or any other copyright materials, that are included in the author's article.
To ensure high-quality production and professional typesetting, all non-textual materials must be submitted as separate files. Do not embed images, tables, or musical examples within the manuscript Word file.
Technical File Requirements
Authors must provide the original source files for all illustrative material to allow for consistent formatting:
Music Examples: Preferably, provide the original notation source file. In addition, a PDF reference file for each example must be included to ensure visual accuracy during conversion.
Tables: Submit as separate, editable Microsoft Word (.docx) files.
Illustrations and Images: Submit a high resolution .tiff or .jpg file (300 dpi in grey tones or color).
Use simple, consistent file names (e.g., Example 1.1.musx, Table_1.docx). Avoid spaces or special characters in filenames.
Please ensure that your name does not appear in the metadata of your Word, Sibelius, or Finale files.
Marking Placement within the Manuscript
Since files are handled separately during the layout process, authors must explicitly "tag" the intended location of each item within the main text:
On a new line between paragraphs, insert a bold, bracketed instruction at the exact point where the item should appear.
Example:[Insert Example 1.1 near here]
Captions: Provide a complete list of all captions (numbered to match your files) at the very end of your main manuscript file.
Format: Example 1.1: Dargomyzhsky, Rusalka, Act 1, mm. 12–16.
Hebrew Transliteration
Hebrew terms should be rendered in transliteration according to the SBL general-purpose system, without diacritical marks. Established forms of personal names and titles of works may be used where they exist.
Media
Audio and video examples are welcome. To conserve server space, audio files should be in MP3 format (under 15MB). For larger video files, please provide a stable, permanent link.
